After making the switch to a Pro V1 golf ball, the winner of the Hong Kong Open opened with a course-record 60 on his way to a seven-shot, wire-to-wire victory, calling it “some of the best golf I’ve probably ever played.”
The champion, who switched to Pro V1 from a competitor’s golf ball model, hit 93% greens in regulation (67/72) over the four days at Hong Kong GC, including 52 of his final 54 GIR.
His 27-under total, after rounds of 60-65-65-63, broke the event’s scoring record by five shots while earning him invitations to the 2026 Masters Tournament and 154th Open Championship
"I played some of the best golf I’ve probably ever played,” he said. “So, yeah, to have that sort of golf and shoot those scores around here is pretty special.”
- The champion and runner-up Peter Uihlein (Pro V1x) led a 1-2 finish for Titleist golf ball players, with a total of 103 players (75%) teeing up a Pro V1 or Pro V1x this week in Hong Kong.
- Also in the bag for the champion was a Vokey Design WedgeWorks SM10 60K* Grind lob wedge, one of the most popular lob wedge grinds across the worldwide professional tours.
- Taihei Sato closed in 4-under 67 Sunday, claiming his first JGTO win with a two-shot margin of victory.
- The 32-year-old entered the final round in the lead after moving up the board with a 9-under Saturday 62.
The winner of the Fortinet Players Cup gamed a GT2 driver, four Vokey SM10 wedges and a Scotty Cameron Del Mar-style putter to earn his first JGTO title.
Four of the last seven JGTO events have been won with a Titleist GT driver, while six of the last nine have been won with Vokey wedges.
“My tee shots have been very stable over the past three days, so I’ve been able to play without much stress,” said the eventual winner after shooting 62 in the third round to open up a three-shot lead.
