Titleist Tour Report: 08.10.25

PGA TOUR | FedEx St. Jude Championship

Zeroed in down the stretch with his 2025 Pro V1x golf ball, Justin Rose birdied four of his final five holes in regulation and two of the three extra holes to capture his 12th PGA TOUR victory.

Leading the field in Proximity with an average of 26 feet, 9 inches, Rose was unrelenting as he headed home at TPC Southwind, forcing the playoff with birdie putts of 15 feet, 1 inch (No. 14), 8 feet, 9 inches (No. 15), 5 feet, 11 inches (No. 16) and 22 feet, 9 inches (No. 17) to reach 16 under.

On the second extra hole, he stuck his Pro V1x to 6 feet, 10 inches. On the third, his Pro V1 stopped 11 feet, 6 inches from the cup.

Posting four rounds of 67 or better, Rose gained over eight strokes tee to green (+8.756/3rd) with over five and a half of them coming on approach shots (+5.660/8th).

Rose was among the overwhelming majority of players who teed up a Pro V1 or Pro V1x this week in Memphis, with six players finishing T9 or better. That list included:

  • The World No. 1 (T3), who has won each of his 17 PGA TOUR titles and four major championships playing a Pro V1 golf ball.
  • Cameron Young, who followed up last week’s victory at the Wyndham Championship with a fifth-place finish, closing with Sunday’s best round (64). Young remained dialed in his second start playing a Pro V1x prototype golf ball, gaining over six strokes off the tee (+6.473/1st) and over three strokes on approach shots (+3.231/16th).
  • Rickie Fowler, whose T6 finish moved him up 16 spots in the FedExCup Rankings to 48th to qualify for next week’s BMW Championship. Fowler, who finished last season 108th in the FedExCup, made the switch to a Pro V1 golf ball from a competitive brand to start 2025.

JUSTIN ROSE’S MOVE TO 2025 PRO V1x

Justin Rose made a field-best 26 birdies this week at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, gaming the 2025 Pro V1x golf ball he moved to earlier this season after early-week testing at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

During a session on the range at Bay Hill, Rose, who had been playing a higher-spinning Pro V1x+ prototype, found more optimal spin numbers throughout the bag with ‘25 Pro V1x. He then brought it to the golf course, where he saw improved distance control and even better performance in the wind.

“It's a great golf ball,” Rose said in the week leading up to this summer’s Open Championship. “I've kind of gone through the gears a little bit. I've gone from the lowest spinning end that Titleist makes to almost the highest spinning end. It is the perfect combination of high spin around the greens and that beautiful spin in my short irons. And then as I get towards the driver, the spin starts to come down for me. Maximum distance on the long end of the clubs, tons of spin with the short end of the game — so it gives me a lot of control everywhere.

“Links golf (for example) is all about flighting a golf ball. So in moments you want to have high spin, downwind or stopping on firm links turf, you need spin. And at other times you need to trust that you can take a little bit of spin off. Or if you're making calculations into the wind, if you're playing into a 10 mile per hour wind and in your head you go, ‘OK, this is going to take 20 to 25 yards off of the shot,’ you need to know that that spin rate's consistent. Because if suddenly you drop spin, the wind isn’t going to affect the ball quite the same way. So having trust in your spin numbers is absolutely paramount in terms of playing in the wind.”

Rose has been playing a Titleist golf ball since switching from a competitive brand at the Open Championship in 2021.

“I have massively high demands of myself, and actually the way I try to operate with my swing at the moment is that I'm very, very, very precise with how I'm dealing with my baseline and my swing,” Rose said. “We're kind of dealing with zeros, if I'm more than one degree out with my swing path, we're making adjustments to that. So obviously if I'm dealing with a degree of tolerance, I want to make sure that there's something on the other end of that swing that has zero tolerance as well. The ball is your ultimate teacher. What you do to it is what it does. It doesn't have a mind of its own. It does what we tell it to do. That's all you want from your golf ball. When you put the correct move on it, it does exactly what you want.”

FEDEX ST. JUDE CHAMPION WINS WITH TITLEIST IRONS, VOKEY WEDGES, SCOTTY CAMERON PUTTER

The winner of the FedEx St. Jude Championship gamed a setup that included his Pro V1x golf ball, 620 CB 4-6 irons, three Vokey Design wedges and Scotty Cameron Phantom 5 putter, gaining a total of over 12 shots on the field (+12.493), with over eight shots tee to green (+8.756/3rd) and over three shots putting (+3.378/7th).

CHAMPION KEEPS ROLLING WITH SCOTTY CAMERON PHANTOM 5 PUTTER

The winner of the FedEx St. Jude Championship rolled in over 370 feet in putts (371 feet, 3 inches/2nd) this week in Memphis with his trusted Scotty Cameron Phantom 5 tour prototype putter, averaging 1.54 putts GIR (3rd) while gaining over three shots on the field putting (+3.378/7th).

The Phantom 5 is the same putter that the 2013 U.S. Open Champion moved to last summer, making a mid-tournament switch to the Scotty Cameron mallet from a competitive model at the Travelers Championship, where he gamed it for the first time in Round 3 and posted a 65-69 weekend in Hartford. His next start with the new putter was at Final Qualifying for the 152nd Open, where he shot 8 under over 36 holes at Burnham & Berrow to earn a spot at Troon, en route to his then-best major finish in six years (runner-up).

He has used the putter, which features a prototype alignment design, in 15 of his 20 PGA TOUR starts since Hartford, earning all five of his top-8 finishes since with the Phantom, including his runner-up finish at this year’s Masters Tournament. In his five starts with competitive models, he has missed three cuts, withdrew once and finished T44.

He first asked Scotty Cameron reps about the putter at the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst, having been drawn to the Phantom 5’s compact mallet head shape and the way it set up, square and flush to the ground.

FOURTH PGA TOUR WIN IN FOUR WEEKS FOR PLAYERS GAMING SCOTTY CAMERON PUTTERS

The FedEx St. Jude Classic champion made it four wins on the PGA TOUR in four weeks for players gaming Scotty Cameron putters. Three of those wins came with Phantom mallets, while one came with a Studio Style Newport 2 prototype.

  • FedEx St. Jude Classic: Scotty Cameron Phantom 5 tour prototype putter
  • Cameron Young | Wyndham Championship: Scotty Cameron Phantom 9.2R tour prototype putter
  • 3M Open: Scotty Cameron Studio Style Newport 2 tour prototype putter
  • Ryan Gerard | Barracuda Championship: Scotty Cameron Phantom 5.2 tour prototype putter

FEDEX ST. JUDE CHAMP WINS WITH VOKEY SM10 WEDGES

The FedEx St. Jude Classic champion brought three Vokey Design wedges to the winner’s circle on Sunday: SM10 52.08F, SM10 56.08M, WedgeWorks 60.06K.

The 45-year-old Englishman leaned on his wedge play down the stretch, where he made a charge that included four birdies over his final five holes. On No. 15, he stuck his 111-yard approach to inside of 9 feet for birdie, and on the par-5 16th, he got up-and-down from the greenside bunker for birdie.

More clutch wedge shots came on No. 18, with the winner hitting approaches from 122 yards, 100 yards and 124 yards to 13 feet, 3 inches, 13 feet and 6 feet, 10 inches, respectively, on his first three trips down the par-4 closing hole on Sunday.

Earlier this season, the champion visited the Titleist Performance Center at Woburn to dial in his setup. When it came to addressing his short game, he worked with the Titleist team to find a matrix of wedges that felt comfortable and inspired confidence around the greens. One of the changes involved moving to an .06K Grind lob wedge, which delivered a familiar feel with its wider sole. The champion had played the narrower-soled WedgeWorks 60-degree L Grind lob wedge earlier this year, but he found the .06K delivered better performance from the sand and great feel across a variety of conditions.

This week’s victory also makes it five PGA TOUR events in a row that have been won by players gaming a full set of Vokey Design gap, sand and lob wedges.

FOURTH WIN IN FOUR WEEKS FOR VOKEY .06K GRIND, K* GRIND LOB WEDGES

The winner’s lob wedge, a WedgeWorks 60.06K, is one of the most popular lob wedge setups on TOUR. After today’s victory, the .06K Grind and its related K* Grind have now been used to win four times on TOUR in four weeks:

  • The 153rd Open Championship: Vokey Design SM10 WedgeWorks 60.06K lob wedge
  • The 3M Open: Vokey Design SM10 WedgeWorks 60K* lob wedge
  • Cameron Young | The Wyndham Championship: Vokey Design SM10 WedgeWorks 60K* (@ 62) lob wedge
  • FedEx St. Jude Classic: Vokey Design SM10 WedgeWorks 60.06K lob wedge

The .06K Grind was originally born out of Master Craftsman Bob Vokey and longtime Vokey tour representative Aaron Dill’s collaboration with players on the PGA TOUR and across the worldwide professional tours. .06K Grind wedges feature wide, cambered soles with 6 degrees of bounce. The sole width delivers exceptional performance out of the bunker, while the lower bounce offers tremendous versatility, allowing players to manipulate the face and hit higher, softer shots off tight lies around the green.

“The 6-degree K Grind lives in the bags of some of the world's best,” Aaron Dill. “It has always been known as the ultimate bunker club. However, when you ask players on tour why they play the .06K Grind, they will tell you not only do they love the performance in the bunkers, but they love the way the leading edge hugs the ground when pitching and chipping.”

Originally a WedgeWorks exclusive grind, Vokey added 58.06K and 60.06K lob wedges to the stock Vokey SM10 lineup earlier this year.

Closely related to the .06 Grind is the K* Grind, which originated from player requests to modify the sole of the popular Low Bounce K Grind lob wedge. Instead of the full, smooth sole of the K Grind, the sole of the K* Grind features a steeper pre-wear on the leading edge, providing forgiveness from the square-faced position, along with heel, toe and trailing edge relief, which allows the leading edge to sit closer to the ground when the face is opened. And like all K Grind variations, K* Grind’s wide sole excels out of the bunker.

In addition to providing performance out of the sand, the wider soles of .06K and K* Grind lob wedges also help players create effortless height around the greens. This performance benefit is particularly popular with high-ball speed, low-launch players looking to open the face and elevate the ball quickly greenside with more ease.

This week in Memphis, the champion’s winning wedges were among the 104 Vokey Design gap, sand and lob wedges (51%), more than all other brands combined.

DP WORLD TOUR | Nexo Championship

Titleist Brand Ambassador Grant Forrest earned a decisive four-stroke win on home soil, taking home his second DP World Tour title this week in Scotland. Forrest, whose equipment setup includes his 2025 Pro V1 golf ball, GT3 driver, NEW T250 and T100 long irons, Vokey Design SM10 wedges and Scotty Cameron putter, was the only player to reach double digits under par, finishing at 10 under for the week. He shot the low round of the week on Friday, a course record-setting 6-under 66.

Every aspect of Forrest’s game was dialed this week. Across four rounds in Aberdeenshire, he led the field in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green (+13.0), with over seven strokes (+7.24, 2nd) coming from his approach play. He hit 72% greens in regulation (T6) and finished T3 in Scrambling (65%). The 32-year-old Scot also gained on the greens, where he picked up +4.08 strokes on the field with the flatstick.

For the week in Omaha, the 24-year-old South African carded four rounds in the 60’s (67-67-65-66).

Lamprecht put on a ball-striking exhibition all week long, as led the field in Greens in Regulation (83%, 60/72) and Driving Distance. He also got up-and-down for par on nine of 12 attempts (75%, T11).

With the win, Lamprecht jumps to 10th in the Points List, up 21 spots from his position entering the week.

Twenty-five birdies (2nd) and one eagle saw him finish the four rounds at 25 under, five shots clear of second place. Nobody dropped fewer shots than Brennan, who only surrendered two bogeys all week. The 23-year-old also hit 83% greens in regulation, ranking T2.

With the win, Brennan climbs to the top of the Fortinet Cup standings.
