PGA TOUR | The Masters Tournament

Playing his NEW 2025 Pro V1x golf ball, Justin Rose made an extraordinary Sunday charge at Augusta National, closing in 6-under 66 and forcing a playoff at the 89th Masters Tournament after starting the day seven shots back of the lead. Rose made 10 birdies during his final round, including six over his final eight holes. That included a birdie-birdie-birdie trip around Amen Corner, as well as a final birdie on the 72nd hole to reach 11 under for the week.

Rose was one of 65 players this week at Augusta National gaming a Pro V1 or Pro V1x (68%), more than five times the nearest competitor. Seventy percent of all golf balls played this year on the PGA TOUR have been the #1 ball in golf.

JUSTIN ROSE’S MOVE TO NEW 2025 PRO V1x

The Masters marked Justin Rose’s fourth start teeing up the NEW 2025 Pro V1x golf ball, having made the move to the new model after early-week testing at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

During a session on the range at Bay Hill, Rose, who had been playing a higher-spinning Pro V1x+ prototype, found more optimal spin numbers throughout the bag with ‘25 Pro V1x. He then brought it to the golf course, where he saw improved distance control and even better performance in the wind.

This week at Augusta National, Rose led the field with 24 birdies, while finishing second in GIR (55 of 72, 76%). He hit 31 greens (86%) on the weekend, including 15 on Sunday. He led the final round in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green (+4.59), while finishing fourth overall for the week (+2.35 per round), according to Data Golf.

Rose has been playing a Titleist golf ball since switching from a competitive brand at the Open Championship in 2021.

“I have massively high demands of myself, and actually the way I try to operate with my swing at the moment is that I'm very, very, very precise with how I'm dealing with my baseline and my swing,” Rose said. “We're kind of dealing with zeros if I'm more than one degree out with my swing path, we're making adjustments to that. So obviously if I'm dealing with a degree of tolerance, I want to make sure that there's something on the other end of that swing that has zero tolerance as well. The ball is your ultimate teacher. What you do to it is what it does. It doesn't have a mind of its own. It does what we tell it to do. That's all you want from your golf ball. When you put the correct move on it, it does exactly what you want.”

TITLEIST IS MOST PLAYED DRIVER, IRON, WEDGE AT AUGUSTA; RUNNER-UP GAMES TITLEIST DRIVER, IRONS, WEDGES, PUTTER

  • Titleist has been the most played driver on the PGA TOUR for six seasons and counting. The story was no different this week at Augusta, as 37 players (39%) gamed a Titleist driver this week. The nearest competitor had 26 in play (27%).
  • Titleist irons have been the top choice of PGA TOUR players for 11 straight seasons. Thirty-one players (32%) this week played a set of Titleist irons, compared to the nearest competitor with 19 (20%).
  • Vokey Design wedges have been the most played gap, sand and lob wedge on the PGA TOUR since 2004. This week at the Masters, they accounted for more wedges than all other brands combined (139, 51%).
