The #1 ball in golf was the overwhelming #1 ball this week at TPC Sawgrass, with 101 players teeing up a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball (70%), more than six times the nearest competitor with 16 (11%).
- That list included Titleist Brand Ambassador Justin Thomas (Pro V1x), who made a PLAYERS record 11 birdies on his way to a course-record tying 62 in Friday’s second round; and Alex Smalley (Pro V1x), who led the field in Strokes Gained: Around the Green (+5.987), just ahead of fellow Pro V1x player Jordan Spieth (+5.322).
Titleist, the most played driver on the PGA TOUR for six seasons and counting, was the most played driver at THE PLAYERS, with 53 Titleist drivers in play (36%), 14 more than the nearest competitor (39/27%). The co-leader who posted rounds of 66-68-70-72 to force Monday’s three-hole playoff, is gaming at GT3 9.0 driver (more below).
There were 45 sets of Titleist irons being gamed this week (31%), compared to 24 (17%) for the nearest competitor. Titleist irons have been the PGA TOUR’s top choice for 11 seasons in a row and counting. Titleist was also the most played hybrid (16/64%) and utility (39/71%) at Sawgrass.
- With his blended set of T200/T100/620 MB irons and Pro V1 Left Dot golf ball, Titleist Brand Ambassador Tom Hoge gained +9.583 strokes on approach shots, finishing just behind category-leader Tom Kim, who gained +9.893 over the four days with his T200/T100 irons and Pro V1x.
Of all gap, sand and lob wedges in players’ bags this week, 234 of them were Vokey Design (55%), the PGA TOUR’s most played wedge since 2004.
Five of the top nine players on the final leaderboard gamed a Titleist driver, including the 15th-ranked player in the FedExCup standings, who will make his first career PGA TOUR playoff appearance tomorrow morning with his Titleist GT3 driver:
Gaming a GT3 9.0 model (B•1 SureFit Hosel, T•1 CG Track, Fujikura Ventus Black Velocore+ 6 X), the co-leader gained over three shots on the field off the tee (3.355, 11th).
He first made the move to a GT driver from a competitive model at last year’s Rocket Mortgage Classic, starting with GT2 before moving into GT3 four start later at the 3M Open. He’s been in GT3 ever since.
The 2024 Mexico Open champion, who switched from a competitive model to a new Scotty Cameron Phantom 9.2 tour prototype putter in his last start at the Cognizant Classic, led the field in Strokes Gained: Putting with +9.146 strokes gained on the greens at TPC Sawgrass – over two shots more than second place (+7.065) in that category.
In his first round with the new putter two weeks ago at PGA National, just two days after first seeing the putter on the putting green, he shot a course-record 59.
He has now gained more than 12 strokes (+12.262) over his first eight rounds with the new flatstick, having gained +3.116 strokes in his first start at PGA National.
Titleist Brand Ambassador Bud Cauley shot rounds of 68-71-66-74 to post 9 under, finishing T6 to lock up status on the PGA TOUR for the remainder of 2025 (reaching the top 125 threshold via the Major Medical category). He is also projected to climb 81 spots up the FedExCup standings to No. 47.
Cauley, gaming his NEW 2025 Pro V1 golf ball and GT2 8.0 driver, ranked 10th in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee (+3.368). He was also locked in on the greens with his Scotty Cameron Timeless tour prototype putter, gaining 6.208 strokes (5th).
Also finishing at 9 under was Titleist Brand Ambassador Danny Walker, who gained over 11 strokes on the field from tee to green (+11.432, 4th) for the week. Over 6.5 of those shots came from his play off the tee (+6.589, 2nd), as he was dialed in with his Pro V1 Left Dot golf ball and GT3 10.0 driver.
Walker began the week as second alternate before rounds of 73-70-66-70 for the week at Sawgrass helped him lock up a T6 finish, matching the fourth-best finish by a PLAYERS Championship rookie in tournament history.
Manon De Roey (Pro V1) made a clutch birdie on her final hole to reach 9 under and win her third LET title by one shot. De Roey shot rounds of 69-63-69 around Coffs Harbour Golf Club, remaining steady and in control of her golf ball through difficult conditions on Sunday.
“It was a bit more windy today compared to the other days,” the 33-year-old Belgian said. “But I feel like the wind is my friend so I used that to my advantage and tried to stay patient all day.
Bokyeom Park (Pro V1) shots rounds of 66-70-66-70 to post 16 under and win by one shot. The victory marks her third career win on the KLPGA tour.
