Matt Wallace stuck his Pro V1x to 8 feet on the first hole of a playoff and rolled it in for birdie to claim the European Masters, the sixth consecutive win for Titleist golf ball players on the DP World Tour. Wallace, who opened the week with rounds of 64-62, topped a leaderboard that featured six Titleist golf ball players in the top 7 – including Andrew “Beef” Johnston (Pro V1), who finished one shot out of the playoff. Wallace, one of 109 players (70%) teeing up a Pro V1 or Pro V1x this week in Switzerland, averaged +2.66 strokes gained per round tee to green (for the three rounds tracked on dpworldtour.com, as of Sunday night). Nine of the last 10 winners on the DPWT have been Titleist golf ball players.
The European Masters marks Matt Wallace’s second victory (1 PGA TOUR, 1 DPWT) since making the switch to a Titleist golf ball in early 2023, after playing all of the PGA TOUR’s 2021-22 season and the first six events of the 2022-23 season with a competitive model.
Wallace earned his first PGA TOUR victory at the 2023 Corales Puntacana Championship, in just his sixth start after making the switch to Titleist, and just his fourth start with Pro V1x.
Wallace teed up a Pro V1 to start 2023 at the WM Phoenix Open. Two weeks later, at the Honda Classic, Wallace made the move to Pro V1x after a testing session with Fordie Pitts of Titleist Golf Ball R&D on the range at PGA National.
“Matt was looking for a bit more traj and spin in certain parts of his game and [Pro V1x] checked those boxes,” Pitts said. “He loved the flight and overall playability and put it right in play that week after testing it. He’d never considered himself a good candidate for Pro V1x, but it’s been a great match.”
Wallace ended 2022 at 98th in Strokes Gained: Approach and 146th in Strokes Gained: Around the Green. After switching to a Titleist golf ball, he finished the 2022-23 season at 72nd (SG: Approach) and 34th (SG: ATG). On the 2024 PGA TOUR, he is currently 47th (SG: Approach) and 23rd (SG: ATG).
“I'm a low spin player so I'm always trying to gain as much spin as possible. We play on firm greens over here on the PGA Tour. It's really important that my spin numbers don't drop too low. I play Pro V1x because it gave me, the launch, the spin, the control, a bit more distance off the tee as well, without losing the finesse and precision around the greens. So that was perfect for me and I managed to use that and get my first PGA Tour win. What I've found with the Pro V1x is the consistency of the ball. That's the most important thing in golf is you don't get any anomalies. You don't get random, wiggly flights from a decent strike. I can fully back the golf ball and be confident that I'm using the best ball in golf.”
The 2024 European Masters Champion won using a new Scotty Cameron 2024 Phantom 9 tour prototype putter, which he put in play for the first time at this summer’s Genesis Scottish Open.
He gained an average of +2.27 strokes putting (for the three rounds tracked on dpworldtour.com, as of Sunday night), ranking him third among competitors this week in Switzerland.
This was the champ’s sixth start using the Phantom 9 model (four PGA TOUR, two DPWT). The week prior to the Scottish Open, he switched to a Scotty Cameron blade model (Concept 1 tour prototype), having played a competitive putter since the start of 2024.
The 2024 Phantom 9 head features long sight lines for improved alignment along with an angular, ring-weighted profile to deliver forgiveness and feel with high MOI.
The winner of the European Masters claimed victory in Switzerland gaming four Vokey Design SM10 wedges (SM10 46.10F, 50.08F, 54.10S and WedgeWorks 60A).
He gained an average of +1.60 strokes around the green (for the three rounds tracked on dpworldtour.com, as of Sunday night), second best in the field.
Y.E. Yang (Pro V1x) made birdie on the first hole of a playoff to claim his maiden PGA TOUR Champions title. Yang shot a closing 5-under 66, posting 13 under over three rounds at Norwood Hills Country Club. Yang's 54-hole total matched that of Bernhard Langer’s, forcing an all-Pro V1x playoff. The 52-year-old led the field in greens in regulation, hitting 47 of 55 (85%), including his extra hole.
Stewart Cink (Pro V1x) finished one shot back to round out the 1-2-3 finish for Titleist ball players.
The winner of the Ascension Charity Classic played three Vokey Design wedges (SM8 BV-Proto TVD 50 SM10 54.08M, 60.04T) and a Scotty Cameron T2 tour prototype putter.
In the final PGA Tour Americas event of the season, Will Cannon (Pro V1x) made birdie on three of his final four holes to win his first PGA TOUR-sanctioned title. He closed in 1-under 69, posting a 5-under total to win by one.
The victory saw Cannon jump 54 spots in the season-long Fortinet Cup standings, landing him in the No. 6 spot to close out the year. The top 10 finishers earn exempt Korn Ferry Tour membership for 2025.
Titleist Brand Ambassador John Keefer finished on top of the season-long Fortinet Cup standings after earning his first PGA Tour Americas victory two weeks ago at the Manitoba Open. Keefer played in 10 events this season and recorded nine top-10 finishes and eight top-5 finishes, and he leads a group of six Titleist ball players to graduate to the Korn Ferry Tour:
Hyunjo Yoo (Pro V1), a rookie on the KLPGA, earned a major victory at Blackstone Icheon Golf Club, closing in 3-under 69. Her 13-under total was good for a two-shot victory over Yujin Sung (Pro V1). The victory increases Yoo’s lead in the KLPGA rookie points standings.
The winner of the KB Financial Group STAR Championship played three Vokey Design SM10 wedges: 50.12F, 54.14F, WedgeWorks 58.06K.
The U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur kicked off on Saturday at Brae Burn Country Club, with 116 players – 88 percent of the field – playing a Titleist golf ball. That includes the two co-medalists (Pro V1, Pro V1x).
